The only hydrofoil route to Vung Tau is operated by Greenlines – DP. The boat runs an average of 4 trips per day and increases its frequency on weekends. The schedule for the hydrofoil boat from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau is as follows:

10 am, 12 pm, 1:30 pm, 2 pm

Saturday - Sunday

8 am, 9 am, 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm

Although it costs more, at 150,000 - 200,000 VND (6 - 7,9 USD) per ticket, these high-quality buses offer a private experience with only about 8 - 16 passengers and no overcrowding. Some limousine services also offer door-to-door pick-up or pick-up at a convenient location for you.

Taxi

  • Price: About 1,200,000 VND (47 USD) for a one-way trip in a 4-seater taxi or 1,500,000 VND (59 USD) for a one-way trip in a 7-seater taxi.

Some Saigon - Vung Tau taxi contacts are Mai Linh (028 38 29 8888), G7 (028 38 16 16 16), SunTaxi (028 38 27 27 27). Alternatively, you can also book taxis through ride-hailing apps like Grab, Bee, or Xanh SM, which are very convenient for booking and hiring a car for 1 - 2 days. Taxis also provide door-to-door service.

Motorbike

Motorbike is a flexible and convenient choice if you plan to explore Vung Tau on your own. The travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau by motorbike takes around 3 - 3.5 hours. In Ho Chi Minh downtown, you can rent a motorbike at the cost of about 100,000 - 200,000 VND (4 - 8 USD) per day and ride it to Vung Tau. The price of gasoline in Vietnam is about nearly 1 USD per liter.

Ferry

If you are not taking the highway or starting from downtown Ho Chi Minh City but instead starting from somewhere near Can Gio, you can opt for the ferry from Tac Suat Terminal. The journey from this ferry dock to Vung Tau is relatively quick.

  • Ticket price: 70,000 VND (2,8 USD) for a one-way ticket. Currently, online ticket purchasing is not available.

  • Travel instructions: Head to Tac Suat Ferry Terminal in Can Gio District to buy your ticket and board the ferry.

Ferry services operate between 6 am and 6 pm, with departures scheduled approximately every hour. The services at the ferry terminal are generally basic but adequately meet the transportation needs. The ferry can carry both passengers and vehicles such as motorbikes and cars and runs very smoothly. A small note is that on busy days, there might be a long line to purchase ferry tickets, which could mean waiting for a while.

Additionally, there is a hydrofoil boat route that runs from Ho Chi Minh City to Tac Suat Ferry Terminal (Can Gio) and then to Vung Tau. Therefore, at Tac Suat Ferry Terminal, you can choose to get either the ferry or the hydrofoil boat. You can take the hydrofoil boat ride at Tac Suat Terminal every day of the week departing at 8:30, 9:30 am, and 1:30, 2:30 pm.
