The Director of Ninh Binh’s Department of Tourism, Bui Van Manh, stated that all four provinces share the distinction of having UNESCO-recognized heritages. Ninh Binh is home to the Trang An Cultural and Natural World Heritage Site; Thanh Hoa has the World Cultural Heritage of the Ho Dynasty Citadel; Nghe An and Ha Tinh boast the Intangible Heritage of Humanity, which is the folk song genres Vi and Giam of Nghe Tinh.

Additionally, the four localities hold a special geographical position, serving as a bridge between Hanoi and the North Central region, between the Northwest and the Red River Delta, and between the Central provinces with Laos and Thailand. The road and rail transport systems through these four localities are well-developed, connecting three important routes on the North-South traffic axis, including National Highway 1A, the North-South railway, and the Ho Chi Minh trail. Two of the four localities have airports, including Vinh International Airport in Nghe An and Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa.
