The list of the world’s most interesting neighborhoods is an annual ranking by Time Out. The magazine surveyed experts and editors living around the world to identify neighborhoods that meet the criteria of being interesting and worth visiting.
Thảo Điền Ward in Thủ Đức City, home to a large expatriate community in Ho Chi Minh City, has been named for the first time in the ranking of the world’s most interesting neighborhoods.
Time Out describes Thảo Điền as a place with many pedestrian-friendly, tree-lined spaces, restaurants, spas, and fashion and handicraft stores. Located in the eastern part of the city, formerly part of District 2 and now part of Thủ Đức City, Thảo Điền is home to over 20,000 residents, including many expatriates.

Nicknamed the “rich neighborhood,” the area boasts numerous upscale bars and restaurants that stay open until midnight. Visitors to Thảo Điền can easily find Michelin-recognized dining spots. Time Out editors suggest visiting Tre Dining, a Michelin Selected restaurant. This outdoor restaurant offers a tasting menu that uses entirely local ingredients with a Vietnamese flair in an upscale setting.
The British magazine also recommends sweet-toothed visitors to stop by Bakes, a creative bakery owned by a French-Vietnamese. To enjoy a peaceful morning in Thảo Điền, visitors can start their day with a cup of salted coffee at Hue Cafe Roastery, followed by a bowl of pho at Pho Bac Hai.

Along Xuan Thuy Street, the main road of Thảo Điền Ward, there are many souvenir and decor shops. Time Out suggests visitors can come here to buy local ceramics or visit the world-famous Vietnamese chocolate shop Maison Marou to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa.
